CAR BUT BAD LUCK RULE THE DAY FOR LAW, DYSON, AND G & W MOTORSPORTS
AT MOSPORT GRAND AM CUP RACE
After
qualifying a competitive 6th for the September, 12 Grand Am Cup
event at Mosport International Raceway, the G & W Motorsports Porsche
GT3 Cup car finished 8th in the GS I class with Darren Law at the
wheel. The 3-hour Grand Am Cup race, an endurance event for stock
production racecars was the headline event of the weekend, and was
completed amid clear skies and beautiful conditions.
The weekend
started well as Law screamed to second in the timing charts after
the first practice session. Said Law after the event, "We knew the
speed in the car was there. We had been testing at VIR over the
last couple of weeks, and so the car was quick right out off the
trailer at Mosport."
The strategy
was to have Chris Dyson qualify the car, and therefore start the
race with Law jumping in at midpoint and finishing the event. Dyson
drove a steady qualifying session on Friday to ensure the car was
in the field, and the car was then prepared for the race.
Dyson maintained
his position following the start and was running strongly until
lap five when a suspension failure caused a quick spin. Dyson was
able to continue however, and quickly made for the pits where the
car was attended to, but lost two laps in the process.
Dyson continued
with his stint and brought the car in for fuel at which point Law
climbed aboard. Darren was happy with the setup and set out to make
up time. "Even though the Grand Am Cup races are billed as endurance
events, pretty much everybody is on a sprint pace right off the
bat," said Darren. "Being two laps down pretty much takes you out
of contention, but we decided to push hard anyhow. The car was good,
and we turned consistently quick lap times that would have kept
us right with the leaders. That suspension problem was just bad
luck."
Look for Law,
Dyson and the whole G & W crew next week at Circuit Mont-Tremblant
where they will again test the GS I Grand Am Cup field in their
Porsche GT3 Cup car. The race will be another 3-hour event and will
be a support race for the Grand American Rolex Sports Car series
held the weekend of September 19-21.
