DAREEN LAW AND FLYING LIZARD MOTORSPORTS EARN
HARD FOUGHT SIXTH CONSECUTIVE PODIUM FINISH
American Le Mans series standouts Darren
Law, Johannes van Overbeek and the entire Flying Lizard Motorsports
crew earned their sixth consecutive GT class podium finish at the
Road America 500 this past weekend. Law of Phoenix and van Overbeek
of San Francisco shared driving duties in the team's #45 silver
and red ShoreTel/eSilicon/Brocade Porsche GT3 RSR, as they worked
their way through the field to finish 3rd in class.
Despite struggling somewhat in qualifying, the team made a strategic
decision to start from last place in the field, and subsequently
took advantage of a rule allowing the use of new or "sticker"
tires at the start. Law set off to make his way through the entire
GT field, and brought the car in for a mid race pitstop and driver
change in 2nd place.
Said Law following the event, "We started last by choice. After
qualifying we decided to put a fresh set of tires on for the race.
This was a good call since we knew we would have to push hard starting
from the back of the grid. This was a good finish and yet another
podium."
The Flying Lizard team left Road America in second place in the
GT driver's championship points race with only two races left in
the 2004 season. The team heads next to Road Atlanta for the Petit
le Mans.
"We are really looking forward to the Petit Le Mans,”
said Darren. "Our pit stops have been excellent, so I hope
this will play to our advantage for the Atlanta race since it is
about 10 hours long."
