LAW AND FLYING LIZARD MOTORSPORTS LEAD ALMS GT DRIVER POINTS
It was a
strategy filled July 5th running of the ALMS New England Grand Prix
at Lime Rock Park that saw Darren Law, Johannes van Overbeek and
the Flying Lizard race team finish a tantalizingly close 2nd to
the Ferrari 360 of Ralph Kellners and Anthony Lazzaro. Their
well-earned podium finish amidst intermittently rainy and slick
conditions, places the Flying Lizard drivers at the top of the ALMS
GT Driver's points chase.
After qualifying 8th for the third ALMS race of the 2004 season,
the driving duo of Law and van Overbeek steadily moved the team's
#45 ShoreTel/eSilicon/Brocade Porsche GT3 RSR to the front of the
field. The team was helped by two, well-timed and quickly
executed, tire stops to fit Michelin rubber that would meet the
changing track conditions.
"Johannes did a great job in the rain," remarked Law after
the race. "By the time I got in, the track was dry, and
I was pushing as hard as possible to keep ahead of the Alex Job
cars. There is a long way to go this season, but it does feel good
knowing that we're leading the GT points right now."
Law, van Overbeek and the entire Flying Lizard squad have only two
weeks off before they head out to Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California
for the Infineon Grands Prix of Sonoma. The July 18 race will
be carried live on CBS. Starting at 3 pm EST.
