LAW AND FLYING LIZARD MOTORSPORTS IMPRESS
AT SEBRING ALMS SEASON OPENER
After
the checkered flag flew to end a spectacular ALMS season opener,
Darren Law, Johannes van Overbeek and John Fogarty and the Porsche
911 GT3RSR of Flying Lizard Motorsport returned home an impressive
4th in class. The 52nd running of the Mobil 1 12 hours of Sebring
lasted well into the cool Florida night, and showcased fantastic
racing in all categories of the endurance event.
"That was a great race," exclaimed Law. "Johannes
(van Overbeek) and John (Fogarty) and did an absolutely great job,
and the car was right on the pace. The crew worked very hard all
week long to get the setup and was good the entire race. We definitely
found some good speed."
Law's number 45 Michelin tire-shod ride led for several laps of
the grueling race, and the team was in podium contention throughout
the event. A late race pitstop to change brakes dropped the team
to their fourth place finishing position, but also set the stage
for an all out final stint charge.
"We were running in a pretty comfortable third for much of
the race," commented Darren, "but toward the last hour
mark we had to come in for a brake change. Sebring can be pretty
tough on a lot of parts on the car, and brakes are for sure one
of those elements. The guys got the change done really quick, but
we had dropped to fourth. John (Fogarty) was already in the car,
so we decided to leave him there and bring the car home. With fresh
tires and cool air he ran some great laps, and was able to slash
the gap to 3rd down to only 9 seconds."
Despite just missing a podium finish, Law and the team were happy
with the results, and know that their competitiveness bodes well
for the rest of the season.
"Sure it would have been great to be on the podium," reflected
Law, "but I'm pretty happy with the way the race went overall.
I think we have all the elements of a winning organization. The
Michelin tire was fantastic and the RSR is just a great car to drive.
I am looking forward to Johannes and I working together for the
rest of the season."
