DARREN LAW AND FLYING LIZARD MOTORSPORTS EARN
HARD FOUGHT 5TH PLACE IN ALMS PETIT LE MANS
It
was a hard fought 1,000 mile 9.5 hour race that saw Darren Law,
Johannes van Overbeek, Patrick Huisman, and the entire Flying Lizard
crew overcome adversity to finish 5th in this weekend's American
Le Mans Series Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.
Despite losing several laps to the GT class leaders early on in
the race due to contact, Law of Phoenix, van Overbeek of San Francisco,
and Huisman of the Netherlands, staged a noteworthy comeback, as
they continued undaunted in the team's #45 red and silver ShoreTel/eSilicon/Brocade
Porsche GT3 RSR. The team's well-earned 5th place finish ensures
that they can carry GT class championship hopes to the final race
of the season at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
"We drove flat out the whole race," remarked Law. "We
knew it was going to be tough to catch the Job cars, but we just
put our heads down and pushed hard. The car was really good all
the way through, and I'm glad we were able make up as many positions
as we did." It was evident from the action in the pit lane
area that the Flying Lizard crew was not giving up.
"The pit stops were super quick," said Law following the
event. "That definitely helped us work our way back through
much of the GT field."
The Flying Lizard team travels next to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
for the final round of the 2004 ALMS schedule. The Fry’s Electronic
Sports Car Championships is scheduled for the weekend of October
15-17.
