LAW HELPS FLYING LIZARD MOTORSPORTS SECURE PODIUM FINISH AT ALMS
53RD ANNUAL MOBIL 1 TWELVE HOURS OF SEBRING
After twelve hours of intense race action,
the Flying Lizard Motorsports team ended their evening on the podium
once again with a well earned and hard fought 3rd place GT2 finish
in the 53rd annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. ALMS veteran
Darren Law, who raced the full season with Flying Lizard in 2004,
joined the squad for the classic enduro, and was happy to be in
a position where he could help the team in the first event of their
sophomore year of ALMS competition.
The 37-car strong field took the green flag at 10:45 am EST Saturday
morning, with cooler temperatures and heated race action from the
start. A spin in the back part of the circuit saw the beautifully
prepared black and silver #45 eSilicon/ShoreTel Flying Lizard Porsche
GT3 RSR momentarily facing the wrong direction, but it wasn't long
before driver Jon Fogarty was able to work his way back through
the field, where the team found itself holding the 2nd position
in the GT2 class for much of the event.
A braking issue, which forced the team to change out a brake and
caliper assembly on their GT3 RSR dropped the entry to 3rd and several
laps down to the leading and eventual GT2 class winning Petersen
Racing Porsche.
Law shared driving duties with Johannes van Overbeek, and Toyota
Atlantic champion Jon Fogarty, the trio having been teamed up again
from last year's Sebring event. Law drove several stints in the
Michelin shod Flying Lizard machine, and recalls much of the race
action.
"My first stint went really well, and we were running 2nd there
for quite awhile," remarked Law after the draining twelve-hour
race. "We were right on the pace with the lead GT2 car, and
we were pretty much waiting to see how the race would shape up.
During my second stint we started to have some brake bias problems.
Ultimately we had to stop and have a rotor and caliper changed out
which ended up putting us a few laps down. Overall though, I thought
we had a good race, and it was good to be back with the Flying Lizard
guys again."
Darren wore OMP safety gear at this year's 53rd annual Twelve Hours
of Sebring. You can find a full line of OMP driver safety gear at
CDOC.com. CDOC carries a wide range of driver and vehicle safety
and performance enhancement equipment, and will again be supporting
Darren through the 2005 season.
