LAW FINISHES 8TH IN ROLEX MONTREAL EVENT AND PREPARES FOR UPCOMING BUSY DOUBLE DUTY WEEKEND

Darren Law and teammate David Donohue finished 8th in a compressed schedule Montreal 400k Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve event this past Friday. With only two practice sessions held on Thursday, the Friday race was preceded by same day qualifying and a short final practice session. The eleventh round of the fourteen round Daytona Prototype schedule marked the series’ first visit to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, and was a combined Prototype-GT class race. The Rolex series shared the weekend’s events with the Nascar Busch Series machines.

Montreal 400k Coverage
Law qualified the #58 Red Bull Brumos Porsche Riley 7th with a 1:37.237 lap of the 2.71 mile racetrack. The narrow confines and concrete borders of the permanent street circuit that has been a staple of the F1 schedule, promised for some close racing action. Law took the green flag for the scheduled two and half hour endurance event amidst warm and humid conditions, not unlike the balmy weather that took its toll on many drivers at Barber Motorsports Park two weekends ago.

As the seventeen-car Daytona Prototype field streamed toward turn one after taking the green flag, there was light contact after the tight chicane between Law’s Brumos Porsche and the 01 Telmex Lexus Riley of Memo Rojas. Law held his position however and although he then dropped the position later in his stint, Darren eventually worked his way to fourth, shortly before a planned stop to hand the car over to Donohue. However, on a restart on lap 30, following a full course yellow, the 01 Telmex car, this time with Scott Pruett at the wheel, made contact with the #11 SAMAX Citgo Pontiac Riley of Szekeres, which in turn hit Law’s Brumos. The resulting damage to Darren’s rear bodywork caused a heavy rear tire rub and eventually Law was forced to pit under green, dropping the #58 several places down the order.

David Donohue who jumped aboard the Red Bull Brumos entry at Law’s stop, worked his way back to 8th place at the checkered flag, giving the Brumos squad yet another top ten finish this year.

Busy Weekend Schedule
Darren’s busy schedule this month continues, as he prepares for the next Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve event that will be held this Thursday and Friday at Watkins Glen for the Crown Royal 200 at the Glen. Darren will also be competing in the American Le Mans Series Generac 500 at Road America, and will leave the Glen on Friday to make it to Wisconsin in time for the morning warm up before the Saturday afternoon four hour ALMS endurance race. Darren will be driving the #44 Flying Lizard Porsche GT3RSR, and will again have the opportunity to score points for the 2007 Porsche Cup competition in two different series in the same weekend.

Driver Quote - Darren Law
“We had a good run going at Montreal. I was running 4th towards the end of my stint, and not long before David was supposed to get in. Even though we struggled early in the weekend to get a setup, and despite the fact that David and I had never been there, we actually had a competitive car for the race, and I felt like we would have easily been fighting for a top 5. But, on a restart, going into turn two, the field stacked up behind me. I think Pruett got into the Citgo car, which in pushed him into me. He hit me in the right rear corner and broke the rear bodywork. It got pushed into the right rear tire and cut the tire, and I had to make a green flag stop for a tire change, which dropped us from 4th to 15th. We worked our way back up to 8th in the end, but without the hit we for sure would have been higher.

Next weekend will be very busy for me as I’m again going to do two races in the same weekend. I’ll be at Watkins with the Brumos, which has been a good track for us in the past. Friday, after the race, I’ll then take a quick flight to Wisconsin and should be there in time to get a couple laps in the #44 Flying Lizard Porsche before the race that afternoon.”
