LAW
IMPROVES PERFORMANCE IN PHOENIX PF CHANG'S ROCK AND ROLL HALF MARATHON
Phoenix, Arizona After a successful showing at last weekend's
Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series' annual Daytona Test Days,
Porsche endurance racing driving Darren Law tried a little human
powered racing as he competed in the PF Chang's Rock and Roll half
marathon in his hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. Darren competed in
the same race last year, and finished this yearıs half marathon
several minutes ahead of his previous pace.
Law, who has a full time ride in the Brumos Riley Porsche Daytona
Prototype in Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series competition
and is contesting a part time American Le Mans Series schedule in
a Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche GT3RSR is keenly aware of the
benefits of proper physical conditioning. When cockpit temperatures
can routinely exceed 130 degrees, a well-conditioned athlete can
better cope with the harsh environment and as a result has a clear
advantage in the task of piloting the race car. It is no coincidence
that many of the world's top drivers, Law included, keep to strict
workout regimens to be at peak physical conditioning.
Conditions for the PF Chang's half marathon segment of the weekend's
festivities were a runner's dream with a clear cool windless forecast
indeed coming to fruition. A total of 30,000 people showed up for
the entire weekend event, and the PF Chang's Rock and Roll meet
is rapidly becoming one of the nation's premier races of its type.
Law was able to cover the 13-mile distance in 1 hour 42 minutes
- a four-minute improvement from his performance last year.
Law was happy to be able to do something near home for a change,
as his 2006 race schedule rarely gave him opportunity to spend much
time in Phoenix. Darren again has a busy 2007 season planned, and
will officially kick of his season with the 2007 24 at Daytona to
be held the last weekend of January.
Darren Law Quote
"I came to the realization that I needed to look at physical
conditioning way back when I was running the Super Touring Car series
in the late 90s. Since then, I've worked hard to make sure that
I have the endurance to operate the race car at the limit for the
full course of my driving stints. I think it has definitely had
a positive impact on my performance in the car. I want to thank
my coach, Tim Pelot for all of his help and guidance."
