LAW
AND DONOHUE TO TEAM WITH RICE AND SHARP AT UPCOMING 24 AT DAYTONA
Phoenix, Arizona - Porsche endurance racer Darren Law and
his season long teammate David Donohue will take to the track for
the 2007 Rolex 24 at Daytona Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series
season opener January 25th through the 28th. Law and Donohue will
be joined in the #58 Red Bull Brumos Riley Porsche Daytona Prototype
by 2004 Indianapolis 500 winner Buddy Rice and 1992-1993Trans Am
champion Scott Sharp. The potent driver lineup is but one of several
strong driver teams that will be found up and down pit lane for
this yearıs twice around the clock endurance event.
Test Days
All four drivers helped to shake down the #58 Porsche Riley at the
annual Daytona Test Days held earlier this month, and the Brumos
car ran competitive times throughout the weekend. Law, who set a
very competitive time of 1:44.4, was encouraged by the performance
of the Brumos Riley Porsche package and is hopeful for a strong
race later this month.
The Competition
2007 will also mark the first full season that the Brumos team will
use the Riley chassis, and it appears that the team is making gains
in extracting speed from the car. Law knows that the Brumos team
has worked hard at making their entries as competitive as possible,
but he is also aware that the rest of the Daytona Prototype field
has raised their game as well. If the lap times seen at the Test
Days are any indication, the 2007 Grand American Rolex Sports Car
Series season promises to be a competitive one, and Law figures
to be in the thick of it.
Busy 2006 Off Season and Upcoming 2007
Following the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the Grand American schedule has
a one-month break to allow teams to work on the cars following the
grueling endurance classic. By the beginning of March, Darren's
schedule will begin to ramp up as he travels to Mexico and the Autodromo
Hermanos Rodriguez for the 400k Rolex series enduro. Law will also
be contesting the majority of the 2007 American Le Mans Series schedule
with the Flying Lizard GT Porsche team, the start of which will
be the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring later in March.
Darren also had a busy off season in late 2006. He was away from
his hometown of Phoenix for most of November and December testing,
and he even got the chance to compete in the Baja 1000 where he
finished sixth in the Baja Challenge class with co-drivers from
the Kelly Moss Porsche team. The race provided a unique challenge
for Law, and was an event he would like to experience again.
Darren Law Quote
"Its shaping up to be another busy year for me, and competitive
as well. We were quick in the Brumos car at Daytona, and I hope
that means that weıll be able to show that competitiveness in the
race. We had a great race for about 23 hours last year, and then
had that late race incident that took us off the podium. If we keep
our noses clean and just click off clean quick laps we should be
in the hunt at the end. Iım looking forward to having Buddy rice
and Scott Sharp join David and I for the race. All four of us are
pretty comfortable with the car.
The off season was great, but super busy. I have to thank Dave and
Jeff Stone for the unbelievable experience at Baja. I really had
no idea how intense that racing can be. You have to be ready for
anything and everything to happen in off road racing, and I'm glad
I got the chance to do it. Hopefully we can do it again this year.
I also want to thank Colin at CDOC for all of his past support agreeing
to help me with product support through the upcoming 2007 season."
